ABOUT
GRIFFIN
Griffin is a dedicated and passionate tuba instructor with a rich background in music education and performance.
Griffin holds a Master's Degree in Tuba Performance from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where he studied with legendary tuba professor Daniel Perantoni. Prior to IU, he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Tuba Performance from the University of Louisville, where he developed a strong foundation in performing with band, orchestra, brass quintets, brass bands, and as a soloist.
Since 2019, Griffin has been sharing his expertise and love of music through private lessons on both tuba and euphonium. He has also worked extensively with bands in Louisville and Southern Indiana as a low brass tech and sectional coach, helping young musicians achieve their full potential.
As a performer, Griffin frequently plays with both the Columbus (IN) Philharmonic and the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra. Griffin has also appeared as a featured soloist with the Oldham County high school tuba euphonium choir and the Derby City Brass Band.
Outside of his professional life, he enjoys spending time with his wife Madison, watching and playing basketball (go ‘cers!), and reading fantasy novels with his cats near by.
Teaching Philosophy

My philosophy on teaching has always been student focused. I strongly believe that my job is to not only make excellent musicians, but to also make excellent people. Private lessons will help introduce skills such as: creative problem solving, time management, self awareness, and developing intrinsic motivation. All of these skills are extremely valuable in any field inside or outside of music.
Another cornerstone of my teaching philosophy is being goal oriented, and adapting my lesson plan to fit each student’s goal. Without clear goals, even the most dedicated student will have a hard time making progress. In lessons we will set realistic and achievable goals, and we will work together towards them.
Lastly, I believe in creating a positive, growth based environment for my students. This is pretty self explanatory. I will never berate, belittle, or disrespect any of my students. I will instead focus on celebrating growth and achievements, and encouraging hard work through mutual respect. If a student works hard for me, I’ll work twice as hard for them.
Music is one of the most powerful tools for positive change in a persons life. Whether you choose to be a life long musician, or just try it out for a few years, music can help turn you into the best version of yourself.
Music teaches self control and how to self motivate. Music teaches you how to regulate your attention as well as your emotions. Music makes you smarter. Music makes you happier. Most of all, it’s just fun!
